Steelhead is the hot bite, while salmon hiding in cool water

We’re seeing a good number of steelhead in the river, and more and more kings are starting to show every day. Our group landed six adults on Tuesday. The fish are spread throughout the river right now, with the faster water holding the steelhead while the kings are sitting in the holes where the waters cooler. Boats are catching a few salmon in the estuary trolling Kastmasters.

There was a report that a gray whale had entered the river down by the mouth. Read the story in the Times-Standard, click here.
